Our commitment

The Village of Covington is committed to ensuring that this website is accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities. We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA, and we treat accessibility as a requirement of the site itself rather than an add-on.

How this site is built for accessibility

• Semantic HTML landmarks, one page title per page and a logical heading order
• A “Skip to main content” link as the first item reachable by keyboard
• Visible focus indicators on every link, button and form field
• Text contrast of at least 4.5:1, and 3:1 for large text and interface components
• Meaningful alternative text on images; decorative images are hidden from screen readers
• Labels on every form field, with errors described in text rather than color alone
• Content that reflows without horizontal scrolling down to 320 pixels wide and at 200% zoom
• Reduced motion honored for visitors who set that preference in their operating system
• An events calendar built natively in accessible HTML rather than an embedded third-party calendar

No accessibility overlay

The Village does not use an accessibility overlay, toolbar or plug-in. Overlays frequently interfere with the assistive technology people already use. Accessibility is built into the pages and components of this site.

Known limitations

Some older documents (such as scanned ordinances and minutes) may not yet be fully accessible. If you need any Village record in an accessible format, we will provide it promptly and at no cost.

Ongoing review

New pages and features are reviewed with keyboard-only navigation, screen readers and automated testing before publication, and the full site is reviewed periodically.
