History & Fort Rowdy
The Village grew on the site of Fort Rowdy, a supply post built in 1793 during the Northwest Indian War on the banks of the Stillwater River.
Timeline
- 1793 — Fort Rowdy is built on the Stillwater River
- 1816 — The town is laid out
- 1835 — Covington is incorporated
- Earlier names: Friendship, Newberry and Stillwater
Fort Rowdy Gathering
Each year the community marks its heritage with the Fort Rowdy Gathering, a festival of living history, traditional crafts, music and food held in Community Park.
